Please double check with the hosts file, sometime you may have entered different IPs with the same FQDN.

Update ESXi from 5.5 to 6.5

I am trying to update ESXi from 5.5 to 6.5, booting from CD. All VM's shutdown.

I am getting an error of conflicting vib error, host versus metadata.

HUAWEI-bootback-hio-200u2  10EM.550.0.0.1331820

It offers to remove it and also advises to create an ISO.

When I SSH into the server and esxcli software vi b list | grep HUAWEI, it  finds it. I am hesitant to allow the installer to remove it, looks like NIC driver?

Could someone point to some documentation on how to procede?

Thank You

Lou

Hi Bluefirestorm,

Thank you for your reply, I have checked that status of Vmparport and it shows as running (please see attached screenshot). I have also managed to located the listed drivers in path C:\Windows\System32\DRVSTORE (screenshot also attached).

I have performed a fresh install of Workstation 14 but the issue remains , is there anything else I should be looking for?

Once again thank you for your assistance

How is your parallel port configured for the VM? Do you specify "Use physical parallel port" and "Autodetect"?

The vmx configuration file should show

parallel0.present = "TRUE"

parallel0.autodetect = "TRUE"

parallel0.fileType = "device"

Inside the VM, I notice the screenshot you provided shows "OX16PCI95x PCI Parallel port" which suggests that it is using the driver for the PCcard parallel port instead of the out-of-the-box LPT driver from XP. Have you tried using the out-of-the-box XP parallel port driver instead? Inside the VM, it should not "see" the PCcard but a (virtual) LPT port; so the standard XP LPT driver should suffice. So you should uninstall the PCcard LPT software driver from the XP VM.

In case using the standard XP LPT driver still does not work, you want to "Power on to firmware" to go into the virtual BIOS and configure the virtual parallel port settings (under "Advanced" - "I/O Device Configuration". The default is "Auto" which assigns default IRQ and port addresses. I haven't used parallel port devices in decades but I don't recall having to fiddle with IRQ and port addresses for parallel ports.

Hello VMware experts, I am new to virtualization technology. This question might be very silly but I am confused and needs clarification. I am studying VMware vSphere 6 and for that reason, I have created Lab on a Dell server. Server specs are 2 x Intell Xeon 8 cores each with 64 GB ram. I have installed windows server 2012 R2 on it and installed VMware Workstation. In workstation, I have installed 2 ESXi hosts, additionally, I have installed guests on each of the hosts. I am trying to check the communication from guests between hosts. I know that in order to communicate with the guest from one host and another host it has to go through physical Nic and then through an external switch. My host one is connected to VMnic1 and second is connected to VMnic2. when I ping from guest 1 to guest 2 is it using my Ethernet3 adapter to communicate between Vmnic1 and Vmnic2. My traffic is not going through an external switch. When I run Wireshark on the Physical interface I see ping packets. To check more I removed the switch and now only host 1 is connected to an uplink(physical link). I still able to ping between guests. I think they are communicating through Vmnic1 and Vmnic2. Please, if anyone can elaborate on this, I would really appreciate your help. I am struggling on this since last 2 days. Also, I want to master the Networking of VMware. How the physical link is associated with the virtual link. How their communication takes places. If anyone can link me to the resource which explains in detail of Virtual NICs then I would be very thankful.

Same issue here.  MacOS High Sierra Server host (iMac Pro 10.13.4) running Sierra guest with VMWare Fusion Version 10.1.1 (7520154)

Keys get stuck like crazy (especially Ctrl, Option and Shift keys).  Previous host hardware (iMac i7 host, macOS Sierra Server, Sierra guest) didn't have any issues on VMWare Fusion 10

I found I can't add another interface in DLR or EDGE.

I don't know what is reason.

Turn off VSAN

I'm upgrading the infrastructure and I need to take the last host off from a cluster with VSAN enabled; basically it's a group of disks contained within a host, within a cluster with no other host in it. I thought about vMotion the VMs to other ESXi hosts but there aren't any online so I have to find a way of breaking the VSAN group apart without moving the VMs. Is this possible?

The any other way I could come up with is using storage vMotion only and use external storage instead, that way the VMs keep using the same hosts but are taken of the VSAN group and the downtime would be minimal, only the time the host takes to restart but I'm hoping if this can be avoided as I'd need to move all that data back. VSAN is still going to be breaked off, it's not just a restart, the host need to be taken off the uni-host cluster. There is a spare disk in the host unclaimed by VSAN but it's smaller than the required for all the VMs, I thought about moving part there, part off-host but I can't remember why is it there and why is it unclaimed so I'm a little uneasy about pushing its limits, also, I'm not sure if that'd let me take the host off the cluster, it's been a while since last time I've done this. Any advice?

I'll appreciate millions your advice, thanks!

It looks like that is a driver for a Huawei ES3000 V2 PCIe SSD. I have SSD but it is SATA so I THINK it is unnecessary. I did find  a later level, will try to test removing it, doing the update and then installing the later level. If it works on my test system (virtual), I will take a couple of strong belts and try the production systems.

Re: NSX 6.3.2 add DLR internal interface

It's a known issue as per the following KBs, the resolution is to do an NSX upgrade and the workaround is to use REST API to configure the interfaces

Adding or modifying interfaces to edge fails with a blank error message (2151309)

Creating Interface or sub interfaces on NSX-V 6.3.2/6.3.3/6.3.4 edges fails (2151711)

This issue is resolved in NSX for vSphere 6.3.3, available at VMware Downloads.

Note: This is a known issue in NSX for vSphere 6.3.2 and vSphere VCSA 6.5 U1.

To avoid this issue, create all interfaces when DLR or ESG is being created using UI.

To work around this issue, if you do not want to upgrade, Use API call to change the interface settings.

Wow!

I've now gone through all the questions that have SAML (third party SAML in particular) mentioned on this forum and I'm surprised to note that none of them have any answers.  Is it 'cause third party SAML is not "really" supported (although mentioned in the documentation) or is it that 'cause VMWare has its own SAML implementation and couldn't care less for third party ones?  Assuming the latter (in that VMWare couldn't care less), why not address the 404 error on that published ACS in the metadata?  Does it really exist?

Cheers,

ak.

Hi daphnissov:

Thank you for the suggestion.

SM863 runs on SATA6Gb/s port so it will accept ATA comands, right? If those comands were basiclly involved in every OS including ESXi 6.5u1? I wanna know is there a simple way to make those commands work properly. Because my SSDs worked fine in other situation and I am afraid a firmware updating would make it complicated.

There aren't any vm backup configured.

In the webclient software there is a snapshot, however I can not delete it, nor can I remove the 00000x.vmdk files from the datastore.

Apologies if I misunderstood, but are you saying to buy a version 10 license, but download the previous version and toss the license there?  If so, that would make sense, and thank you for that.

I also have the Huawei ES3000 V2 PCIe SSD, and there the driver is the same for all versions 5.5, 6.0, 6.5. Just update to the latest version before installing ESXi.

So thanks

but in some article said :

independent-persistent mode and independent-non-persistent mode can not get snapshot when my vm is power-on and if we power-off vm it can get snapshot but in that article i could not find this

i have read many article and could not find any about these :

1- i can get snapshot from vm with independent-disk when is power-off

2- when i create  an independent-non-persistent mode in my vm after restart or power-off vm it will be delete my virtual disk from OS but in article i read that when create a virtual disk with independent-non persistent after restart vm just data on disk will be delete but now after restart my virtual disk will be remove and had to add it manually from disk managment

what is the  problem ?
