I appreciate your help. Here is a screen shot from the snapshot manager. There is no option to consolidate. I have already deleted the snapshots some time ago. Again thanks for the help...

Re: Guest customization fails - doesn't rename vm or reboot
Nope, not helpful the vm doens't even get renamed, it deploys and does nothing.

Hi
Can you share the sample code for registering the Extension Fault for this Task?
Thanks for the help!
Re: Set starting directory in PowerCLI
If you create a desktop shortcut you can change the target directory. That should place you in a directory of your choice for start up of powercli.
Re: Creating a LAB
So I currently have Network Adapter set to custom VMnet19.
Seems this have no access to the host OS. so I am assuming no access outside?
Where is the "uncheck the [ ] Connect a host virtual adaptor to this network" this creates a virtual network that is completely isolated.
I don't see this setting anywhere?
Re: Datastore running out of disk space
Assuming you don't need these snapshots anymore, all you need to do is to click "Delete All", and wait patiently for the task to finish. After that there shouldn't be any snapshot files (<vmname>-00000x.vmdk) in the VM's folder anymore. If there are still such files in the VMs folder please let me know.

vCenter 5.5 to 6.0 upgrade and linked vCenters requiring external PSC's
Hello,
I've currently got a 5.5U3 VCenter running on a Windows VM using an external database. The vCenter has a couple of clusters, both of which use vDS's and VSAN.
I'm planning my move to 6.0U1. However, after I get the current vCenter and hosts to 6.0U1 -- want the ability to link in another 6.0U1 vCenter instance and be able to vmotion VMs out of our current vCenter instance. And then eventually shutdown and decommission the old vCenter and all its hosts.
The way I see it, in order to use 2 vCenters in enhanced linked mode -- they both must use External PSC's with a shared SSO domain.
So that means I need to convert my 5.5U3 vCenter (with everything on one VM) into a 6.0U1 vCenter with an External PSC.
Then later down the road, I can build a new vCenter with its own external PSC and point it to the current SSO domain (and then link and vmotion)
What I can't find is if I can have the 5.5U3 to 6.0U1 upgrade create a vCenter with an external PCS.
From what I've found, if the upgrader finds everything on one VM, you get a vCenter with an embedded PCS.
My questions are:
- Is it correct that 6.0U1 linked mode vCenters require both vCenters to use EXTERNAL PCS's and have one SSO domain?
- Can I do and upgrade from 5.5U3 vCenter with everything on one VM and get a 6.0U1 vCenter with an external PCS.
Thanks.
Paul

Re: VIO2 - Provisioning Error: Failed to Execute Task INNER
Hi,
Can you send on the following information for us to have a look.
1) A screen shot of the error message from the deployment
2) On the VIO Management server ( The vApp that you initially deployed out )
- /var/log/oms/oms.log ( a zip file would include them all)
- /var/log/jarvis/ansible.log
This will help troubleshoot the issue.
Thanks,
John.
Re: Windows 10 Start Menu fails to open
None of these fixes worked. It's inconsistent, but usually once my start button is broken it stays broken for each following log on.
I've tried the exclusion on the VHD template. I've tried the 0/5/10 settings for Vol delay. I have changed the default start menu to remove the Windows 10 apps (edge/skype/etc). I've excluded and added to Persona the TileDataLayer folder from %AppData%\Local\. Nothing seems to resolve the start button issue except not mounting an app volume.
Re: AutoDeploy Precreation of AnswerFiles
Let's see if I get this right, after the host is installed and connected it is not in maintenance mode (which is what I would expect).
So why can't you just place in maintenance mode and then apply a HostProfile ?
Something like described in Automating ESXi Host Profile and Answer File with Powercli
Or am I missing something ?
Re: Renaming a Port Group - Standard vSwitch
Just tested this in my lab, renaming the port group did not cause a drop in connectivity.
Re: Renaming a Port Group - Standard vSwitch
If you're changing which portgroup a VM is using, yes there is a drop in connectivity, but not to rename the portgroup itself.
Re: VMWare Converter 3.0.3 Giving "Unable to determine guest operating system" on Windows 2000 SP4
a.p., I have been looking for any version of VMWare Converter 4 to download, but VMWare took them all down from the downloads. That was short sighted of them. I would like to try it. Any ideas how I can?
Of course I logged in as an Administrative account, but I have never had a problem in the past with any resource not being available to other Administrative users. I still like your theory. Can you give an example of this case?
What would be most valuable to this situation would be some understanding of *how* VMWare Converter determines the OS and what resources it is examining for this purpose.
vRO 7 Server Side Client Errors
We recently deployed vRA 7 using the minimal install model to begin planning for a production upgrade from vRA 6 to vRA 7. Since we are using the minimal install model we are leveraging the vRO 7 instance that’s bundled with the vRA appliance.
As we began testing our existing WF’s in vRA 7 we noticed that the data we were writing to System.log() was not visible in our vRO client. I reviewed /var/log/vmware/vco/app-server/server.log to confirm that the data I was logging with Server.log() was indeed being written as INFO. While reviewing server.log I noticed the following client specific error that repeats in the log every 15-20 seconds as long as my vRO Java client is connected and I believe this is why I’m unable to view messages in the Logs tab of the vRO client:

Has anyone else experienced similar errors or logging behavior in vRO 7?
Re: VMware Identity Manager 2.4 connect to SQL Database failed
make sure you access the appliance using FQDN and not only host name or IP address. Other than that I don't know. Sometimes hitting continue twice makes it pass.
Re: Set starting directory in PowerCLI
The trick is in the order of things that are executed.
Your PowerShell profile is executed when the PowerShell session is started, so the PowerCLI initialisation scripts comes behind, overriding your CD
What I do is the following:
- don't start PowerCLI from the shortcut on the Desktop or in the Start menu
- start PowerShell or PowerShell ISE
- in my User profile I call the PowerCLI initialisation script
- and after the call to this script I do my own CD (in my case to my scripts folder)
If you want to be able to initialise the PowerCLI environment from within a running PowerShell session, you could define a function in your PS profile.
Mine is called Start-PCLI, and I do a Push-Location and Pop-Location before and after the call to the initialisation script.
That way I will stay in the current folder.
functionStart-PCLI
{
Push-Location
&"${env:ProgramFiles(x86)}\VMware\Infrastructure\vSphere PowerCLI\Scripts\Initialize-PowerCLIEnvironment.ps1"
Pop-Location
}
Re: VI Connections in Multiple Tabs in PowerShellISE possible?
Thanks for sharing that info.
Re: Renaming a Port Group - Standard vSwitch
If the VM then reboots does it not have connectivity because the information in the .vmx no longer matches the info in vCenter? The connectivity drop when changing port groups is momentary correct? like 1 ping?
Re: VIO2 - Provisioning Error: Failed to Execute Task INNER
Hey there - thanks for that. Seems to point the finger solely at the neutron service on the controllers. Here's what seems to be the relevant area, but doesn't seem to say why it failed:
